update from Korea!

We have been busy taking in the sights, eating lots of great food and shopping!

Costco
One of my favorite things to do in Korea is go to all the different farmers markets and check out the street vendors but as of today, my new favorite thing is to go to Costco and eat the samples. They sample all of my favorites from back home but also some of the Korean food that I love. You'd be surprised to know that they sell alot of the same things that they do back home but for a higher price. Example, back home maple syrup is about $12 at Costco. In Korea, the same syrup is 39,900 Won which translates to about $39. INSANE!! and the funny thing is, I saw many crazy Korean ladies buy maple syrup for that price! I would say that the Costco in Korea is 3x busier than back home!! The food court is always packed and there are lines at every sample counter. One sample counter of fruit was unattended and immediately there was a swarm of samplers huddled around , devouring the food until it disappeared. I got a picture of the insanity because I couldn't believe my eyes.

Madness at the sample table... notice, you can't even see the table.

A wide variety of fresh sushi for sale at Costco!
Korean farmers markets
I love checking out the local farmers markets. Back home in Seattle, we have the Pike Place Market (which I love to visit), but in Korea, there are farmers markets EVERYWHERE. It seems like there are hundreds of little Korean ladies selling their produce/fish/goods at prices so low, you'd think they were Walmart.

Kyung Ju Temple
We visited the historic Buddhist Temple that is over 1000 years old. It was really great to check out some Korean history and see where our ancestors would go to gather. We went a few days before Buddha's birthday (which is a HUGE holiday in Korea) and it was decorated with lanterns.

Here is a little tidbit of what our days are like. A day in the life of Charlie...

  2. Having the first grandchild sure has its perks!! Just remind Tammy it is not the same as the rest arrive. Tannar is always saying...well...you did that for Emma!! Emma was the one and only for awhile while they lived in Provo going to school and some of the boys lived here and would fight over who knew how to hold her the way she liked it best! I would drive down in the evening to just rock her even if she was already asleep! Now I have 18 with 3 on the way!!! These pictures are great! Have fun!!
